Digital film recording produces photographic quality output onto conventional color or black & white camera films.
Please provide your images as RGB uncompressed tif files with no alpha channels or embedded profiles. Film recorders operate directly from RGB data and ignore embedded color profiles. Apply profiles and resave your files in order to preserve the effect of an embedded profile.
We view all files on a calibrated monitor prior to output and will call if we see any potential problems with your images. Unless instructed otherwise, we will apply embedded profiles prior to output.
35mm slides have a 3:2 aspect ratio image area. If your image is not 3:2, we will size it to whichever edge hits first, and the unexposed area will remain black.
4x5 and 8x10 transparencies have a 4:3 aspect ratio image area. Again, we will size your images to be as large as possible without cropping or distortion.
Film recorders only see pixels, while ignoring inches and dpi.
Here are the target sizes for 35mm output:
2048 pixels x 1364 pixels (approx 8 Mb)
4096 pixels x 2728 pixels (approx 32 Mb)
Here are the target sizes for 4x5 and 8x10 output:
4096 pixels x 3072 pixels (approx 32 Mb)
8192 pixels x 6144 pixels ( approx 128 Mb)
For larger orders where color and density may be a concern, we offer half price preliminary test output.
